Earth’s Empty Face

In a featureless world we wade
Masked—
Lost.

Seek and ye shall find, He said;
Love another soul and you’ll love me.

Yet,
Each soul hermits in homes or hikes
Alone

Disease aside,
The kindred kind—
So scarce

Hopeless now:
Dread divides, and destitutes.

Souls retreat
Terrified of touch, or time bereft of
Six pedestrial spaces, or Heaven forbid—
Bare-faced!

But
For a brief breath, a brave sojourner stops—
To share
Time, touch, trust
We travel the trenches together
Earth meets Christ
Face-to-face,
In vivid visage He’s Found.
His goodness melts into our
Mutual musings;
His fullness
Settles and seeps into our souls.

This too shall pass and
Earth’s eager emptiness shall fully
Efface.

Conversation Partners

Are you a
    HERE I AM
or a
              There you are
                                       ?

It’s rude to take up too much space with your own voice.

Seek sincerely the soul of
Another

But don’t simply wait…
Invite them
to speak
and
to be known

After all—
You’ve never met a mere mortal:
Each reflects the Creator Himself
Each treasures a story to be heard.

Yearn

Quench not this thirst,
If in fulfillment,
Leaves, satisfied—
And yearns not for Eternity…
But let linger this vast longing—
Hence only in seeking — finds fulfillment;
To yearn — and seek again —
Satisfied to yearn and find once more —
Until, Hereafter, eternally met.

These Little Hands

These little hands
Find trees to climb
And turn pages for the very first time

These little hands
Build towers
And bring me bouquets of flowers

These little hands
Hold each other’s
And stroke (and pull) the hair of sisters and brothers

These little hands
Tidy and mess
And with their father play chess

These little hands
Help in the kitchen
And count on fingers for addition

These little hands
Reach for mine
And remind me daily of a love Divine.

Wrench Me Back

Wrench me back
To You.
I,
bone dry,
parched,
frail,
Drenched with ache:
weary flesh notions of satisfaction;
soul — fragmented,
Desperate for…
?
Undefinable
pining —
vague notions of
estimations,
yet,
undoubtedly,
ultimately,
You.
My innermost, empty spaces conclude,
nay, pre-comprehend:
Naught else satisfies,
All else yields drought.
Wrench me back to Life.
