Earth’s Empty Face

In a featureless world we wade
Masked—
Lost.

Seek and ye shall find, He said;
Love another soul and you’ll love me.

Yet,
Each soul hermits in homes or hikes
Alone

Disease aside,
The kindred kind—
So scarce

Hopeless now:
Dread divides, and destitutes.

Souls retreat
Terrified of touch, or time bereft of
Six pedestrial spaces, or Heaven forbid—
Bare-faced!

But
For a brief breath, a brave sojourner stops—
To share
Time, touch, trust
We travel the trenches together
Earth meets Christ
Face-to-face,
In vivid visage He’s Found.
His goodness melts into our
Mutual musings;
His fullness
Settles and seeps into our souls.

This too shall pass and
Earth’s eager emptiness shall fully
Efface.
